Here, we’ve been a part of not only the campus run “Finals Focus” which puts on games, food giveaways and prizes during the week of final exams; but we have also added our own “de-stressing zones” to the mix as well. We started a social media campaign called #ClubLibCmich that centers on the students making the CMU Library THEIR library. What is #ClubLibCmich? Whatever YOU want it to be. We knew people already used #ClubLib all over social media when talking about going to study; so we decided to run with that and have some fun. Again, we are trying to change the mindset about what exactly YOUR library is to YOU.
During the week before and the week of finals this past spring, we offered a variety of things for our students to come into our building and experience to help them relieve some stress while seeing the Library as something more than just a place to study. Guided meditation in one of our larger public rooms every night for 30 minutes, multiple yoga sessions during the week, and tables of games in the middle of the building along with extended building hours. We pushed it out via all of our social media channels while also printing up business cards and laminated calendars of events to promote everything across campus. The promotion went quite well and we had lots of compliments from students who appreciated the chance to take a study break without having to leave the building. We plan to do this every semester and are always looking for great ideas to help our students to de-stress and get geared up for a successful finals week.
